In the beginning of 2013, which is about 14-15 months away, my family is going to Hawaii! Most likely Maui to watch humpback whales. We will stay about 10 days! We also want to go island hopping, what else could we do? We are going to save about $3,500 – $5,000 a person! What else should we do?

Aloha from Maui,
Good for you to start saving now for your 2013 vacation to Hawaii.
Rates for early 2013 should be available around April or May of 2012.
Your budget of $3,500-5,000 per person is a very generous budget so I am sure you will have lots of fun.
A 10 day stay would allow you to split that up nicely between 2 islands.
Each island here in Hawaii has their own charm. I have written about this a few times on Yahoo answers and even wrote a blog about it. I will include the link to the blog below if you would like to check it out.
You didn't mention your age or what your family might be interested in. But here are a couple of the more popular tours and things to do in Hawaii.
1.) I think everyone should do a luau. I like the ones here on Maui best. They have great entertainment and food.
2.) Snorkeling is fun either off the shore, or from a boat. The nice part about doing it from a boat is they will give you complete instructions, plus feed you!
3.) Hiking is fun. You can do this on your own (but pay attention to the other person comment about not trespassing) or you can go with a guide. They know the best places to go and what not to miss.
4.) Zip line tours are fun. I have done 2 different companies here on Maui and had lots of fun!
Have a great time while you are here in Hawaii.

you should go to maui and go on a boat and they let you go snorkeling and you can see these fish and i saw and eel once and my brother saw a turtle and if you have little kids you can stay with them or you can let them look through a see through bored and they serve you food and it is about like 3 or 4 hours long
you could go to the beach and swimming, boogie bore ding, surfing or even snorkeling your self all you have to do is bring or rent your own gear and supplies
